NEC Gone 85% FRR

The National Elections Commission says it has completed 80 percent of the work on the Final Registration Roll ahead of the December 26 Presidential Run-off election.
NEC Legal Team Head, Cllr. Musa Dean, confirmed that the UNDP and ECOWAS experts were intensively working in sanitizing the FRR in consultation with the two parties in the runoff election.
The NEC lawyer, however, denied Unity Party’s allegations that it was excluded from the ongoing cleaning process of the FRR as mandated by the Supreme Court.
Cllr, Dean made the statement Monday during legal argument before the Full Bench of the Supreme Court.
But, UP’s Lawyer, Benedict Shannon, told the Court that NEC was not consulting them in connection with the cleaning up of FRR.
Counselor Shannon argued that the National Elections Commission lacks the constitutional authority to set the date for the runoff election without the approval of the National Legislature.
The Unity Party is also seeking the resignation of the National Elections Commission Chairman, Jerome Korkoya and its Executive Director, Lamina Lighe, before the runoff Election.
Following Monday’s legal argument, the Supreme Court has reserved ruling into the matter.
