The former governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Mills Jones says obtaining education is not a question of choice but imperative to achieving Liberia’s development.
According to Dr. Jones it is time for the government of Liberia and its partners to invest heavily in the educational sector of the country.
Dr. Jones noted that a comprehensive strategy should be put into place by the government in order to enable students finance their education.
He pointed out that a student loan scheme will provide support to students not only in colleges or universities but at vocational and technical institutions across the country.
Dr. Jones asserted that the student loan scheme will help Liberian students access education regardless of their financial status in society.
The former CBL governor was speaking Friday at the launch of the University of Liberia Students Union scholarship fund drive when he donated one million Liberian Dollars to the process.
Speaking earlier, ULSU’s President Daniel Woart recounted the numerous contributions of the former CBL governor in providing scholarship to less fortunate students across various universities in Liberia.
Woart said during Dr. Jone’s tenure at the Central Bank of Liberia, the CBL contributed to fifty percent of the scholarship fees at the state run university.
